Is Your Glass Half Empty, or Half Full?

January 2nd, 2007

Christmas evening we had hurricane force winds that brought down trees and took our electric power away until the following Friday.  I ended up with a cold that lasted all week, so I was in bed during most of that time.  Last year the same kind of storm had power off for four days starting New Year’s Eve.  Some of last year’s downed trees are still waiting to be cut up.

The power went off again briefly on Saturday, though they’ve removed the tree that was blocking our street and things seem to be back to normal.  (I write more about this in my Gratitude Blog.)

Last Thursday we were supposed to get another heavy storm.  Instead, it was sunny and clear – truly beautiful, as only the Northern Coast can be in the middle of winter – from Wednesday through Saturday.

There are many ways we can look at challenges.  For four days we had no electricity, which usually means no water (we’re on a well), and we have no natural gas here.  We are rather used to it up here, since it happens a few times every year.  It’s still an inconvenience lugging in rainwater and wood for the stove!

However, being ill anyway, I slept most of the time, which kept me warm.  I wasn’t very hungry, so didn’t have to turn the Coleman stove on very much.  By the time I was feeling better (Thursday), it was sunny enough for me to go lay out on the chaise lounge with a down comforter over me and sit in the sun for about an hour.  And the well seemed to keep enough pressure that we could use the water sparingly in between turning our generator on for a couple of hours each evening. I guess having to replace the pressure tank last summer actually worked to our advantage!!

I recommend you think about Robert Ringer’s quote (below) next time you are faced with things going in a direction you don’t expect:

“Since every negative has an offsetting positive built into it, and vice versa, you always have a choice as to whether to focus on the abundance or the scarcity in your life. My firsthand experience has convinced me beyond all doubt that if you want more negatives in your life, all you need to do is think about the negatives that already exist.

“Likewise, if you want more positives in your life, focus on the positives that you already have. You’ll be amazed at the number of new positives that will almost magically make their way into your life as the result of focusing on the positive side of the equation.”

As this new year unfolds for you, think about what you want more of in your life.  I challenge you to decide that this is the year you focus on what you want, not on what you don’t want or don’t yet have.

As long as you’re looking at what isn’t here yet and measuring your success or happiness based on the fact you don’t yet have something, you are focusing your attention on the negativity of lack.

Instead, you can determine that you will be grateful for what you do have and the rest will be made available to you at the right and proper time – when you have stopped putting up resistance and have thus gotten out of your own way.

What is Prosperity

November 30th, 2006

Those of you who have started the Prosperity Challenge will remember that I asked you to consider that Prosperity means to you.  Several of you submitted your responses to me (thank you!), and it’s interesting how many of us look at Prosperity in similar ways.

For most of us, it doesn’t involve money so much as satisfaction.  There is, however, that element of moving from lack to choice.  That’s a good thing because focusing on lack just keeps it in place.

Choice is a recognition that anything is possible.  It’s a way of looking at things with an open mind and an open expectation.  Rather than “buying in” to someone else’s defiinition or limitation, choice is ultimately a very personal matter – it’s about what makes us happy.  That’s why it’s so important.

A high school friend of my husband’s is visiting from Lake Tahoe tonight.  He is funny, gracious and easy to be around.  At dinner we discussed how he had closed his business – the one he started 30 years ago – because he decided he didn’t want to be a 55 year old doing what he had always done.  He’s very comfortable with his choice and right now his focus is on how he’s doing exactly what he said he would do…not be a 55 year old doing what he had always done.

How cool is that?  Declaring yourself, following through with your word, and recognizing the value of simply “being”.  He knows that 5 months from now is soon enough to figure out what he wants to do next.  No pressure, no urgency, no emergency.

Most of us never give ourselves the opportunity to discover what we’re capable of being and doing, because we’re so locked into being and doing the same old thing – what’s expected of us.

True Prosperity consciousness recognizes that when we allow ourselves the moments of freedom, we allow ourselves to discover what will give us that next sense of satisfaction.

Oh, and right now he’s in my kitchen doing my dishes – what a great guy!!

Changes and Updates

November 19th, 2006

In this post:

  • Changes to the Site
  • Joe Vitale, Larry King and The Secret
  • Spiritual Cinema Circle – a Free Month
  • Free Drawing for DVDs

Well, I seem to be on a roll…this is the second blog I’ve moved in a week.  So, I’m getting pretty good at installing blogs.

In fact, because I have not had nearly as much time to promote and support the Prosperity Challenge as I would have liked, I decided to make this blog the landing page for people who are coming to the site for the first (or second or hundredth) time.

That way you can always find out what’s new by simply dropping by periodically.  You can leave your stories, your questions and your comments. You’ll need to register first, but anyone can register.

Joe Vitale, Larry King and The Secret

A couple of days ago I sent an email to this list about Dr. Joe Vitale being part of an interview panel on Larry King.  And how the idea for the panel came out of Larry King’s experience with the internet movie “The Secret”.

Unfortunately I was unable to be home the night the TV interview aired, and I still haven’t seen “The Secret”.  But as I mentioned in the email, “The Secret” will be part of the December offering from the Spiritual Cinema Circle, the wonderful DVD program that I’ve been a part of since it began nearly 3 years ago.  So I’ll get to see the movie next month.

In the email I also sent you a link to a free video short from the October SSC DVD and a link that allows you to get a month of the SSC free (except for the shipping costs).  If you hurry, you can get December issue that includes “The Secret”.  And that brings me to my final comments for this post.

One of the reasons I missed Larry King is that I was at a special pre-Thanksgiving event in one of our local communities.

The event is held every year at this time in a part of town where my husband and I first lived when we moved to this community nearly 15 years ago.  We lived in this very cute neighborhood for a little more than a year before buying our lovely ocean-view home 30 miles north of town.  So, that evening we spent some extra time walking around, seeing what had changed and what was still the same.

Of course, many things had changed in 15 years, especially the neighborhood stores we remembered so fondly.  The really cool book/video store where you could find the most eclectic entertainment was long gone, as was the trophy and award store, and the upper class home furnishings store was closing because the owners were retiring.  Then there was the new bank, and the drug store where Food Mart had been.

But the American Cancer Society’s very classy secondhand store was still there.  I always liked going in there – not only because it was a cause I felt really good about supporting, but also because it never felt like a “thrift store”.  It’s always been clean and well-tended.  Gently used, and still very useful stuff in there.

So anyway, my point.  I was looking through the CDs to see if anyone with my taste in music had decided to part with some of their collection.  Unfortunately not.  However, I did find 3 volumes of the Spiritual Cinema Circle DVDs!  Well, for the price I couldn’t pass them up.  I know the value (and I know that I pay $21 + shipping each month to get mine).

Of course I already have these DVDs, but many of you don’t.  So I’m holding a special drawing on December 15.  All you have to do to enter is to communicate with me in writing between now and then.  Post a comment to the blog, send me a question, an idea, a story, a resource.

Tell me how the Prosperity Challenge has made a difference for you – or that it hasn’t.  Ask me that question that’s been challenging you.  Make a suggestion about something you’d like to see or hear.  Or just send me a blank email.

I’ll put your names and addresses in a basket and on December 15 I’ll have my husband draw three names.  Each person whose name is drawn will get one of those 3 DVDs I just purchased. That’s all you need to do.  And 3 of you will have a chance to enjoy the DVD for free.

So I’ll be sitting here waiting to hear from you….just be sure to include an email address so I can contact you afterwards.

Warmly,

Katie

P.S.  Now, I haven’t looked very closely at the DVDs and I can’t guarantee the physical quality – they are used, but seem to be in very good shape.

Welcome to the Prosperity Challenge Blog

September 20th, 2006

Since January 2004, 774 people have taken the Prosperity Challenge. Some stayed on for the full year+, some dropped off earlier.

But many have provided feedback, asked questions, sent thank you’s, and shared their own stories.

I have been collecting both their questions and my responses, with the intent of sending them out periodically in emails to everyone on the list. With their permission of course!!

Because of my busy schedule and frequent travel requirements, this just hasn’t been possible. So, instead, I’ve decided to start posting them on my new Prosperity Challenge blog. As I post a new question, insight or suggestion, I’ll send you a quick email to let you know.

Please feel free to offer your own comments, insight or questions either through the blog, or by sending them to me at prgm@prosperitychallenge.com

As always, I welcome your feedback and ideas. And I thank you for taking this incredible journey with me!!

To our Continued Prosperity and Connection

Warmly,

Katie Darden
